As the semester progresses and we delve further into our study of the meat industry, I find myself becoming increasingly more food conscious. I’ve never been a picky eater and i’m so not above the five second/minute rule but I have been exercising more cation in my food selection. Questions such; “where did this meat come from?” and “is this a fork full of chicken or antibiotics” consume my thoughts as I walk around the cafe in search of a healthier alternative to the mysterious matter that they call “meat”. Long gone are the days of ignorant bliss where I could merrily chomp down on a bacon cheeseburger. Instead, in its place all I see is corn. Lots and lots of corn. In a feeble attempt to evade the corn-meat I asked my roommate (SARAH JANTSCH) to order one of her tofu wraps at Bennys for me. I didn’t necessarily “die” when I ate the soybean glob but my taste buds surely didn’t jump for joy. Although tofu does not deliver the same decadent flavor that a piece of meat can offer me, it compensates for what it lacks in health benefits. So now I find myself choosing; piece of meat or piece of mind?
